Sing, Sweet Goddex

This game was inspired by a poem called "Typewriter Series #1102" by Tyler Knott Gregson. The poem was gifted to me by a close friend who wanted to remind me that even the simple things in life (like getting out of bed, getting a glass of water, making a meal) often take so much courage:

Don't ever let them tell you 
that waking up, 
and reintroducing your feet
to the cold floor
below your
bed
isn't something
to be proud of.
Don't ever let them say
it's not brave
shutting your eyes
each night.

More immediately, I wrote this game because I know what it's like to struggle with anxiety, adhd, and depression. I know what it's like to face the brain weasels that distort my view of myself and the world--trying to convince me that I am somehow lacking, that I'm not enough. I also know those brain weasels are wrong. I have faced the brain weasels and survived. I reintroduced my feet to the cold floor.

At it's core, Sing, Sweet Goddex is a solo journaling game of epic poetry, self-compassion, and celebrating yourself. It can be played any time for any length of time. It can be played just once, or you can revisit it as part of your nightly ritual to reflect on the day. It is both intentionally silly and also seriously committed to the idea that we are all already enough--we are all already heroes. And we deserve to celebrate that every chance we get.

Note that that there are three files. The mini-zine version is designed to be printed and folded as an eight page mini-zine. The pages version is designed to be more usable digitally (on computers or mobile devices). There is also a plain .txt file.
